Dedicate Your Children To God Through Prayer

To raise godly children we must first dedicate them to God through prayer.

Expectant parents (both mother and father) should pray constantly for their unborn child. Pray to God for:
  • Protection from all harm
  • Good health
  • A child who will serve God all the days of his/her life
  • A child with a discerning spirit
  • A good-natured child
  • Provision of all you will need as parents to care for the child

After the child is born you continue to pray for the child, asking God to:
  • Protect him/her from evil
  • Use the child to further His Kingdom as he sees fit
  • Guide the child’s footsteps and decision making
  • Provide for the child’s needs, including financial and basic needs
  • Give him/her good health
  • Make her/him intelligent
  • Provide a good education
  • Give him/her a discerning spirit
  • Make you good parents
  • Provide the resources you will need to care for him/her
  • Give you patience
  • Make you and your child compassionate
  • Make you acutely aware of the child’s needs and to give you the ability to provide them
As the child grows pray over him/her while she/he is asleep, at meal times, devotions, when you sense the need and at various milestones in his/her life (birthdays, first day at Sunday school and Day school, promotion to a new class, graduation, etc.).

Pray with them consistently. Pray for them when they are away from you e.g. at school or hanging out with their friends. This will move God to fight his/her battles. It will also put the devil on notice that this is a child of God and if he messes with her/him he will have to answer to God.

So pray for them in and out of season, whether they are being good or bad, whether they are glad or sad, whether they are sick or well and whether they have a problem or a solution. Your first duty in raising God-fearing children is to dedicate them to God through prayer. Pray from your heart and not your head.

Very good advice. I also pray over every meal, snack or tray that I make. I pray that all who savor these items will learn to walk in God’s way.

Thanks Mia. These are good additions to what to pray over and about.

Great reminder, thanks. I also pray for my children's future partners, that they are following the Lord and using wisdom in everything they do.
